During the Democratic National Convention’s (DNC) roll call on Tuesday, 44 delegates voted "present" instead of casting their vote for Kamala Harris. The roll call vote from the convention was symbolic, as the party officially nominated Harris as their candidate in a virtual roll call earlier in the month.
According to the Daily Caller, among those who voted present were likely the 36 delegate members of the "Uncommitted" protest movement, who say they "feel deeply hurt and betrayed by the President’s decisions to continue funding war crimes and the mass killing of Palestinians."
Minnesota, the home state of Harris' running mate Tim Walz, had the most present votes, with 10 delegates voting as such. Delegates from Connecticut, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, Ohio, Texas, and Washington also voted present. The 44 votes are more than the 37 delegates who pledged to vote "Uncommitted" before Biden’s departure from the race.
According to NBC News, Harris secured 4,567 delegates in the official virtual roll call, exceeding the 1,967 delegates needed for the nomination.
