Americans Freed From Russia Met With Biden, Harris; US Says Gonzalez Won Venezuela Election | NTD Good Morning (Aug. 2)

Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich, former United States Marine Paul Whelan, and Russian-American journalist Alsu Kurmasheva are among those now free from Russian custody. That’s after a large-scale prisoner swap took place on Aug. 1. They’re now back on American soil and reunited with loved ones.

The United States has recognized opposition candidate Edmundo Gonzalez as the winner of Venezuela’s presidential election. The disputed results sparked widespread protests and arrests. Rights groups say at least 16 people have been killed in the aftermath. Secretary of State Antony Blinken says the evidence is overwhelming that Gonzalez won the most votes.

Vice President Kamala Harris delivered a eulogy at a Houston church on Aug. 1. She honored the legacy of long-time Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, who recently died fighting cancer.
