A United Airlines flight from Los Angeles to Shanghai had to return last weekend after it was found that one of the pilots had taken off without their passport.
The China-bound Boeing 787 jetliner departed from LAX around 2 p.m. on Saturday with 257 passengers and 13 crew onboard, CNN reported. It comes after a warning from flight attendands.
However, about two hours later, Flight UA 198 turned around and was forced to land at San Francisco. The flight reached the airport at 5 p.m. local time, the flight tracking website FlightAware said.
In a statement to CNN, United confirmed that "the pilot did not have their passport onboard."
"We arranged for a new crew to take our customers to their destination that evening. Customers were provided with meal vouchers and compensation," they added in the statement.
