Deal to avoid shutdown moving closer as GOP and Dems near agreement on issues

Republican senators are close to reaching an agreement with Democrats that would avoid a government shutdown. 

The proposal would fund the government through Dec. 4, and some Democrats believe that its passage would come with an understanding that Trump's budget reconciliation package would be postponed until after the midterms, The Hill reported, citing unnamed Senators. 

Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., said Thursday that he hopes a government funding deal will come together before the Senate goes into a five-week recess next month.
