Donald Trump's bizarre 'Golden Dome' plan that will cost billions - but there's one big problem

US President Donald Trump has told the Pentagon to begin the development of a brand-new advanced missile defence system nicknamed the Golden Dome. In order to protect America from a range of arial threats, including ballistic and cruise missiles, he Golden Dome will apparently draw inspiration from Israel's infamous Iron Dome.

The Israeli system is well known for its ability to intercept short-range rockets targeting populated areas. However, while Israel's Iron Dome effectively protects a nation comparable in size to Wales, the US requires a system capable of defending against intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) that could potentially strike a much wider range of targets across what is essentially an entire continent.
