Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem’s visit to El Salvador’s notorious Terrorism Confinement Center (CECOT) was meant to send a strong message on immigration and crime—but it’s her luxury watch that has taken attention on its own.
A gold Rolex Cosmograph Daytona, valued at nearly $60,000, was spotted on Noem’s wrist as she stood in front of inmates at the high-security facility. The timepiece has since gone viral online, sparking debate, with some criticizing the optics of wearing such an expensive accessory while addressing gang violence and illegal immigration.
Noem, who also wore the watch during a meeting with Colombia’s foreign minister, warned undocumented migrants that criminal activity in the U.S. could land them in similar prisons. “If you do not leave, we will hunt you down, arrest you, and you could end up in this El Salvadoran prison,” she declared.
