Trump admin files emergency appeal asking SCOTUS to allow third-country deportations to continue

The Trump administration filed an emergency request Thursday to the United States Supreme Court, asking it to immediately allow it to continue its quick deportations of illegal migrants to third countries where they have no ties.

The request comes after a federal appeals court blocked the policy earlier Thursday of deporting illegal migrants to countries that are not their own. Washington deports them to these third countries when home countries refuse to accept them.

The government asked for an immediate halt to the lower court orders that ruled the migrants must have the chance to object before the U.S. deports them to third countries.

“The government has been able to remove thousands of aliens to third countries in recent months, and thousands more are eligible for such removal,” Solicitor General D. John Sauer wrote, according to the Associated Press.
