Trump announces Hamas and Israel have agreed to first phase of Gaza peace deal

President Donald Trump announced in a social media post on Wednesday that Hamas and Israel have signed off on the first phase of a peace deal in Gaza.

"This means that all of the Hostages will be released very soon, and Israel will withdraw their Troops to an agreed upon line as the first steps toward a Strong, Durable, and Everlasting Peace. All Parties will be treated fairly!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“This is a GREAT Day for the Arab and Muslim World, Israel, all surrounding Nations, and the United States of America, and we thank the mediators from Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey, who worked with us to make this Historic and Unprecedented Event happen. BLESSED ARE THE PEACEMAKERS," he added.

The development comes after Trump proposed a 20-point peace plan late last month, which Israel has already agreed to. The plan requires the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the strip and the release of all remaining hostages. Israel would commit to releasing 250 life prisoners and as many as 1,700 Gazans taken into Israeli custody since Oct. 7, 2023.
