VP Vance Security Detail Struck By Shrapnel During California Military Display

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) has released an internal report following a highly unusual incident on Saturday, October 18, where an artillery round from a live-fire military demonstration at Camp Pendleton prematurely detonated mid-flight, sending shrapnel that struck and damaged a CHP patrol vehicle.

In a related development, police confirmed Sunday that part of Vice President JD Vance’s security detail was accidentally hit by an artillery shell during the military display, which was marking the 250th anniversary of the Marine Corps at Camp Pendleton, California.

The initial incident occurred near the edge of San Diego County while CHP officers were conducting a traffic break along Interstate 5 as part of safety measures for an exceptional U.S. Marine Corps live-fire training exercise being conducted over the freeway.
